APPLICATIONS OPEN
PayPal Australian Fashion Festival's Independent Program expands the Festival beyond the traditional runway, creating a platform for the people, practices and ideas shaping fashion culture in Australia today.
Curated by the Festival team, this rich and ever-evolving program brings together independently produced experiences - from exhibitions, workshops, talks, performances and screenings to open studios, independent runways and more - that will take place across Melbourne and regional Victoria during the 2027 Festival period.
Open to independent designers, artists, cultural organisations, educators and community groups through an open application process, the program celebrates fashion in all its forms and creates space for diverse perspectives and creative practices.
Events are developed, funded and delivered by participating organisers, who retain ownership and creative control of their work. As part of the official Australian Fashion Festival program, events benefit from the visibility, audience reach and promotional platform of the Festival.
Independent Program events will predominantly take place in the opening week of the 2027 Festival, from February 19-28. This dedicated program period offers audiences space to fully engage with the breadth and depth of Victoria’s thriving independent fashion scene beyond the traditional runway.
